3rd Grade Supply List

Please bring all items on the first day of school.  Be sure to write your child’s name on each item.

All of the following items should be unwrapped and placed in a Pencil Box.  A simple plastic rectangular school box is needed. A fancy kind with a handle, zipper or other ornamentation WILL NOT FIT in the desk. The box should be approximately 8 ½” by 5 ½” by 3”. Space is limited.

PENCILS – Six sharpened #2 lead pencils are needed.  Please sharpen them at home, if possible.

CRAYONS – A box of 24 crayons is needed. Please do not send larger boxes. These need to be replaced every trimester.  You may wish to purchase a few boxes now, while they are inexpensive.

ERASER – A soft gum eraser works best.

SCISSORS – A sturdy pair is needed and should be the child-safety type. Fiskar makes a good one, but any type is acceptable. Plastic scissors often do not cut with enough precision. Choose a metal pair.

3 GLUE STICKS – We use glue sticks VERY often, so the giant size is best. These, too, will need to be replaced frequently, so purchase a large package.

4 RED BALL POINT PEN – This needs to be a pen, not a marker.

1 YELLOW HIGHLIGHTER.

COLORED PENCILS – A box of 12 is needed.  Please do not send larger boxes.  These will need to be replaced every trimester.

PENCIL SHARPENER – A small hand-held one to fit inside the pencil box.

Each student will also need:

A BOOK BAG – A simple zippered one that will hang in our small closet space is preferred. Do not purchase the kind with wheels.

A 1” WHITE 3-RING BINDER – This will be used in the Technology/Language Arts Lab.  Please write your child’s name inside the binder with a permanent marker.

2 JOURNAL NOTEBOOKS – College ruled, spiral notepads approximately 8 ½ X 11 inches.

1 SPELLING NOTEBOOK – Small spiral notepad approximately 4 x 5 inches.

5 “PEE-CHEE” TYPE FOLDERS – Each folder should be a different color – yellow, red, purple, blue, and green. One will be for homework, one for keeping classwork/projects in the desk, one for sending papers home on Friday, one for storing prayer/song papers, and one for writing.  Please get the kind with the pocket along the bottom, rather than along the sides; these are easier for the children to handle. Print your child’s first and last name inside each folder.

PENCILS – Please send a package of 48 pencils.  Each week your child will be given a new sharpened pencil (not necessarily the ones he/she brought).  They do not have to be “fancy”.  Plain yellow pencils are perfect and inexpensive.

1 BOTTLE WHITE GLUE – 4 oz. Size

1 WATER COLOR PAINT SET – The Crayola brand has the best quality paintbrush, but any brand is acceptable. An 8 color set is large enough.

1 BOX CRAYOLA CLASSIC MARKERS with the 8 basic colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black).  Please leave them in the box. We will use them for special projects, and they will not be stored in the desks at the beginning of the year. Purchase the thick kind, not the thin kind.

1 RULER with both inch and centimeter measurements.

2 REQUIRED READING BOOKS TO PURCHASE:

Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White  (Fall semester)

Ramona the Brave by Beverly Clearly  (Spring semester)

3 CONTAINERS OF BABY WIPES (any brand)

2 boxes of Kleenex-type tissues

2 rolls of paper towels

2 packets of college-ruled paper (250 to 400 sheets per package)

THREE STRETCHY CLOTH BOOKS COVERS – These covers are wonderful! They can easily be put on, and they do not fall off or tear. They also can be washed and used again and again. These book covers can be purchased at Coffee Hour on the first day of school or later in the office.

These items will be needed at home to do homework:

A quiet place to work at a desk or table, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue stick

If your son/daughter will use a LUNCH BOX, please remember that many lunch boxes need to fit in the closet at one time. It is a tight squeeze if everyone has an extra large cooler type box.  Select a lunch box that fits your child’s needs, but is not too big.

I realize that many items are needed, but I hope that by having the list in June, you will be able to purchase many of the items when they are on sale during the summer.

Thanks!!
