TK-1st Grade uses the Superkids reading program. Superkids is designed to integrate reading, writing, spelling, grammar and phonics in a fun, yet rigorous program. Superkids is designed to be in line with California state standards for English and Language Arts.
2nd through 8th grade uses Journeys (2nd-5th) and Collections (6-8th) by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This is a comprehensive Reading and Language Arts curriculum designed to teach students to read both literature and informational texts. It is also designed to teach students foundational reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Journeys and Collections are both designed to be in line with Common Core and California state standards.
For extra practice with reading and comprehending informational texts students use an online program called Read Theory.
Students track their progress reading fiction and nonfiction books using the RenaissanceTM Accelerated Reader program.
For extra English composition practice, students use IXL. An analytics based computer program designed to help students practice concepts they learned in the classroom.
