Our Library is a place of learning and discovery. With over 9,000 volumes, we have everything from picture books to reference books.
Our Library supports our students on their reading journey as they become familiar with books, develop their pre-reading and reading skills, and grow as readers throughout their time at OLR. Using the Accelerated Reader program, which is tied to the STAR learning assessments, we are able to monitor reading progress and goals.
The Library is a source for student research materials throughout the year, for biography reports, saint reports, Mission projects, explorer reports, state reports, book reports, Science Fair, and other projects.
Our Library supports our faculty and staff by providing resources to enrich their curriculum, including holiday-themed books and videos, nonfiction books on science or social studies topics, poetry, biographies, read-aloud fiction, and books on social/emotional/behavioral skills. The Librarian also visits classrooms to read to the students.
We celebrate several reading events throughout the year, including Dahl Day (Roald Dahl’s birthday), Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss’s birthday), and D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read; Beverly Cleary’s birthday). The Library sponsors the annual Summer Book Review Contest to promote summer reading. There are two library fundraisers every year. In January, the Library hosts a Scholastic Book Fair during Catholic Schools’ Week, and in June there is a Used Book Sale during the last week of school.
Our library catalog is maintained using ResourceMate software, and is searchable from the Library computers or via a secure web link. Faculty members and junior high students are able to log into the system and view their current checkouts, due dates, and any overdue fines. They can request renewals and place hold requests for items that are currently unavailable. Parents are also welcome to use the Library, for themselves or to check out materials for their children.
Our Library is a proud member of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Catholic Library Association (CLA).
