Summer Reading 2018

6th grade: Please read a realistic fiction novel of your choice. (Make sure it is age-appropriate!)Create a visual display that highlights the plot of the story. Be creative! It can be a poster, a book jacket, a newspaper or magazine cover, etc. Please include the author’s name in your display. Also, please include a written description of your display and a summary of the novel you read.

7th grade: Please read an appropriate children’s novel that has been written and published in the 21st Century. Create a visual display that highlights the theme of the novel. The theme is the main idea or message being conveyed by the title, settings, and/or symbols. The characters can also convey the theme. Some, but not all, examples of the theme are the following: overcoming obstacles, differences make people special, family makes the difference, etc.

8th grade: Please read a historical fiction novel appropriate for junior high. Create a visual display that highlights the setting and era of the book you read. Also, please write an essay that details why the setting/era are important to the plot.

All grade levels: Please be prepared to share your report starting August 22nd.

I encourage all of you to utilize the local public libraries this summer. I feel they are sometimes an underused resource!
Have a wonderful summer!!
